Monday ~ July 21 ~ Uranus Retrograde 

Then on Monday, Uranus turns retrograde and will remain in this phase for several months. During this time you may notice your urge for freedom and individuation pressing you to make a change. Ready or not, here it comes!


Tuesday ~ July 22 ~ Mercury in Cancer opposite Pluto in Capricorn; Sun in Leo

Tuesday, Mercury in Cancer will oppose Pluto, reinforcing the mantra "knowledge is power." Indeed, you may discover potent information on this day that has deep ramifications in a domestic or career matter. Also on Tuesday, the Sun will enter Leo, allowing all of us to shine a bright light on the pursuit of pleasure.

On Thursday, it might feel like there's a planetary traffic jam. First, Venus in Cancer will trine Neptune, allowing unconditional love to flow. The Sun will also conjunct Jupiter, opening the door for a lucky break in a creative endeavor, your love life or relationship with a child.

On this day, Mercury in Cancer will also go from squaring Uranus to trining Saturn. Even if you put your foot in your mouth, you will be able to "save" yourself from any communication fail.

When You're Going Through Hell, Keep Going

How Outer Planet Transits Are Shaking Up Your Life . . . . (no kidding . . . . )

Outer planets Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are heavy hitters. These guys mean business, and when they transit a personal planet (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) or angle in your chart by close degree, you can count on upsets in your world.

Right now, it's fascinating to note that not one zodiac sign is immune from an outer planet transit. If you are a Fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), we give you the transit of Saturn in Scorpio. If you're a Mutable sign (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) then you are the winner of a Neptune in Pisces transit. And if you are a Cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn), well then, you have won the cosmic jackpot. That's because you get the simultaneous transit of Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. Oh yeah, good times. Or not. 

When I consult with my clients, or even look around at the lives of my friends, or perhaps my own life, I see the fascinating difference that each type of outer planetary transit has in their world. The common theme is change through developmental tension, ultimately leading to personal growth. For each outer planet that transits something vital in your horoscope, it can feel like you are going through the muck. I am reminded of the famous Winston Churchill quote these days more than ever:

"When you're going through hell, keep going."

Easier said than done, right? And yet, we humans are a resilient bunch. We can take so much pressure from the outside world ~ and even from our own creation ~ and not only manage to survive, but thrive.

Even Hell Has An End . . . . I Hope

What resonates most about this quote as I apply it to astrological cycles is the reminder that even hell has an ending. Eventually, you'll get out and come to the other side of pain. Eventually, you will see the light again. Yet the only way to ensure that is to keep going through the darkness.

While it's true that every outer planetary transit to your horoscope has the commonality of morphing your world through a series of stressful circumstances, it's important to note that each outer planet has a very different style, or modus operandi, with which he accomplishes this.

I thought it might be helpful to briefly clarify the differences so that when you or someone you know experiences a transit, you will have an idea of how the specific outer planet goes about achieving his mission.

What Saturn Transits Can Teach

Saturn transits change through restrictive, limiting and sometimes overbearing circumstances. Saturn is also discipline, responsibility and authority. There are many different ways in which this can happen. Let's say you're having a Saturn transit to your 10th House of Career. This angle of the chart is concerned with your status in life, your professional goals and ambitions, and authority figures in your world.

When Saturn comes to this point in your horoscope (and we all get this transit about once every 29 years) it can either be an incredible career pinnacle, where you are recognized as the authority in your industry, or it can be a time of drudgery, where, in the eyes of the boss, your best is never good enough.

The positive end of this transit uses the most illuminative qualities of Saturn to help you master your goals. The shadow is felt as roadblock after roadblock as you work ferociously to get your name out there. Either way Saturn crystalizes what he touches. That's how he teaches.

Uranus Can Shake You Awake

What if Uranus was transiting the same angle in your chart? Uranus is the great awakener of the zodiac. He presents radical change in our life in the most sudden, unexpected way. When transiting Uranus crosses your 10th house you can expect sudden opportunity in career or a sudden change in status (going from married to divorced or divorced to married are examples).

This is also a time of waking up to what liberates you in terms of your life direction and following it. Uranus teaches by destabilizing what it touches, forcing us to accommodate to these shifts and get in touch with our brilliance.

Neptune Transits Point to Gain Through Loss

How about good old Neptune? Neptune dissolves what it touches. When you have a Neptune transit, something ~ or someone ~ tends to slip through your fingers. This can also be a time of tremendous idealism because of the extraordinary spiritual component of Neptune.

A transit of Neptune to your 10th house can result in a major ego loss professionally or personally. There might be a scandal involving you that obliterates your reputation if you have been going down an unsavory path. Alternatively, this might be a time you decide to follow your imaginative career goals and pursue that opportunity in music, film, photography or the healing arts.

What will disappear during this transit is your attachment to the status in life you held before Neptune arrived. Neptune transits teach us by softening us up enough to allow illumination in.

Surrendering to Planet Pluto

And then there is Pluto. This planet, more than any other, likes it in hell. He is, after all, the God of the underworld. When you are having a Pluto transit you know it because the pain you endure can be brutal. Pluto teaches through elimination. He kills off what you no longer need . . . . what is actually impeding you from soul growth.

The more you fight Pluto on this, the harder your transit will be. Do yourself a favor and when Pluto comes calling, prepare to surrender. Your only job during a Pluto transit is to accept the transformation. Even if it hurts. Especially when it hurts. 

Pluto is the planet of power, and if he happens to transit your 10th house you can either arrive at an incredible position of power (sometimes notoriety) professionally, or you can fall from a position of power if you've been abusing your clout.

Either way, Pluto teaches you that with great power comes great responsibility and if you are not using it for the greater good, when he transits your 10th house he's going to rip it right away.

If someone feels like family, you're more likely to be willing to nourish a relationship. If your security buttons are triggered, however, you'll retreat into your shell.

On Saturday, Mercury will trine Neptune, allowing imagination to flow. Work on a creative writing, music, art or a film project now. Intuition will also be heightened. Use it! The Sun in Cancer will also rub elbows with Mars so be careful not to act against your own interests.

Numbers, like people, are not always as predictable as you might wish them to be. Each of the single-digit numbers has a wide range of qualities, many of them apparently paradoxical, as is the case with people. Some of their qualities are hiding in the wings until circumstances send them to center stage. Some of those qualities are clearly two-faced: one day they show their good side, but the next day their bad side reveals itself.

When I first became involved in Numerology, I took the descriptions of the meanings of numbers more or less literally. It was all pretty straightforward. Over time, the more I practiced and the more I learned, that picture changed. I no longer thought about numbers as clearly defined and severely limited personalities. I realized their nature is much more subtle and vulnerable to surrounding forces than I had previously understood.

Today, when I look at a number in someone's chart, I consider the surrounding numbers, the location, and the placement of the cycles as crucial to understanding how this particular number affects that person.


Let me give you some examples:

The 5 is generally understood as a freedom-loving, dynamic, somewhat irresponsible, sensuous, indulgent, un-disciplined, versatile, adventurous, rebellious and difficult-to-control personality ~ all of which are true. You can add to that: sexually promiscuous, short-sighted, impulsive, quick-witted, funny, self-promoting, jovial, financially careless, daring, social and a bunch of other qualities.

Now ask yourself (you, being a responsible, mature, single individual): would you like to become romantically involved with a 5? Chances are, you would consider looking elsewhere, since the 5 certainly seems like a loose cannon. But what if I told you that the 5, when romantically involved with another person, is actually very loyal, not given to cheating, considerate, devoted, and unwavering in its romantic confidence? Not really what you would expect from that seemingly ageless, permanently juvenile 5, is it?

Now look at a 6: sacrificing, loving, caring, responsible, protective, family-oriented, persistent and so forth. Of course, you would love to have a 6 as a romantic partner, wouldn't you? He or she will care for you, protect you, love you, etc. Funny thing though -- being in a relationship is not always enough to keep a 6 faithful. In fact, the 2 and the 6 are the most likely numbers to cheat. Why? Because they love to love. They just can't help themselves.

And of course there are numerous other examples showing that numbers aren't as simple and narrowly defined as they seem. Below is a list of attributes and possible conditions for specific numbers that tend to surprise Numerology enthusiasts. Keep in mind that this is based on those numbers accessing certain qualities above and beyond other qualities, and under fortunate or unfortunate circumstances. I suspect statistical research would prove them to be true.


The most likely to cheat: 2, 6 and 9. As I said, they just open their hearts too easily, and tend to be a bit gullible as well.

The most likely to die poor: 8 and 5. The 8 tends to take too many risks, and greed can turn on itself. The 5 simply has a hole in his/her hand.

The most likely to end up rich and successful: 7 (brains, scholarly, sense of timing), 1 (ambition, focus, leadership) and 3 (innovator, original, support of others).

The most likely to hold high office or run a major corporation: 9 (global consciousness, sense of justice, detachment), 8 (business shrewdness, authority) and 4 (persistent, focused effort, patience).

The most likely to choose a path of crime: 2 (advantage taker, opportunist, liar), 8 (greed) and 5 (rebellious, adventurer, pirate).

The most likely to become a successful artist: 6 (visual arts), 3 (books, film) and 9 (fashion, architecture).

The most likely to become famous: 5 (self-promoter, adapter), 11 (intuition, sense of timing, knowing what the next fad will be) and 1 (spear point, try anything).

On Tuesday, the Sun in Cancer will first square off with Uranus, and then it will move to trine Saturn. This will be the kind of day where you will go from one end of the spectrum to the complete opposite. You may start out throwing a temper tantrum, wanting to free yourself from all of the rules and restrictions in your world. Soon enough, however, you will realize that you need a certain amount of structure to succeed, and you will decide to play the grown-up card.

Kiss Retrograde Goodbye! Planet Mercury Has Gone Direct . . . . Phew!

If you've spent the last three weeks or so feeling mentally scrambled, misunderstood or just plain indecisive, relief is here.  That's because Mercury, the planet that rules the mind, turned direct on July 1, after having gone through another one of its retrograde phases.

And now that it's time to start moving forward again, remember you can get clear answers to help you get going in the right direction with an in-depth Archangel Power Tarot Card reading!


So, what does it mean when Mercury goes direct?

When Mercury is not operating smoothly there can be plenty of mishaps related to anything ruled by Mercury ~ whether its transportation, commerce or communication. Now that Mercury has stationed direct, it will need a few days to regulate its orbit and then you will be good to go. Any delay, frustration or confusion surrounding Mercury-ruled matters will soon find resolution.

A planet changing motion is a potent phenomenon. Remember, Mercury has been out of its usual forward orbit for three weeks, so turning direct again will not be as easy as declaring "On your mark, get set, go!" and watching Mercury zoom out. Ahhh, if only it were that simple.

What really happens when a planet moves from retrograde to direct motion is more akin to waking up from a deep slumber. Mercury will need time to drink some cosmic coffee and fully regain consciousness.


Full Speed Ahead

It won't be until Mercury reaches the degree where it originally turned retrograde and then passes it that you will know Mercury truly has its full strength back. That tends to take a couple of weeks. But don't stress ~ this time frame is nothing at all like the Mercury Retrograde cycle.

In fact, now you will be ready to apply whatever it is you have learned during the retrograde period into your current reality. It only takes a few days of Mercury being back on track for you to notice the difference. From here on out the planet will get stronger every day!

What's interesting is that while Mercury will need time to regulate its orbit, the very day of its stationing direct can be a potent time. It's like Mercury will be jolted awake for a short time (kind of like Mom yelling at you to wake up so you won't be late for school!). During this day or even the next, it's likely you will experience incredible clarity about whatever issues you have been grappling with during Mercury Retrograde.

Be patient, though . . . .  it will take just a little more time before you're ready to execute your newfound lucidity with success.

In the meantime, now that Mercury is direct, over the next few days you are free to sign contracts, schedule vital meetings, have a significant conversation and make important decisions or purchases. Remain confident as you push ahead with anything that requires cerebral muscle.
